Children

Proverbs 15:20 “A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish man despises his mother.” Children have the ability to make choices.  They can choose to be respectful, or they can choose to be disrespectful.  Each of us either has made that choice or are making that choice.  Our passage tells us one choice brings joy and another choice brings sadness.  It is foolish to choose sadness when happiness and joy are such easy choices to make.

A little or a lot?

Proverbs 15:16 “Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.” Our human nature has a strong desire for excess in popularity, toys, looks, income, cars, real estate and anything else on this earth which seems to bring more pleasure than the other guy has.  All of these seeing pleasures can be blessings or they can be a curse.  What makes the difference?  Our relationship with our Heavenly Father.  When my or your bond with our God is strong all else is appreciated but not primary.  Praise God for your blessings but never let them rule you.

A continual feast

Proverbs 15:15 “All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.” Why be depressed when our lives can be lived as if we were enjoying a continual feast?  That is quite a picture our Heavenly Father paints.  Because of His grace, even in this life,  we can enjoy, even as we are going through trials and disappointments, the never-ending comfort, peace and hope because we have a tight relationship with our amazing God. Have a great weekend.

Be wise

Proverbs 15:14 “The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.” Walk with God gaining wisdom with every step you take.  Never let your mouth betray the steps you know you should take.  It is so easy to allow our mouth to contradict our faith filled heart.  Always pray for God to guide your steps, your mouth and your heart.

Don’t be shy

Proverbs 15:7 “The lips of the wise spread knowledge, but the hearts of fools are not upright.” Humble confidence should be a character trait of every Christian.  That character trait should be evident so others conclude—I want that too and how do I get it?  How?  Open one’s heart and allow God to enter.  Study Scripture and let God’s grace stabilize a person’s live so peace and hope thrive.  There is nothing better.  There is no greater treasure.
