Definition of a friend

Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.” There is a song titled–“What a friend we have in Jesus”.  You and I always enjoy the loving relationship we have with our Savior–the best friend anyone could possibly have.  You and I are to follow our Teacher’s example. Have a great weekend.

Great relationships

Proverbs 17:6 “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.” Parents, children and grandchildren all create a wonderful joy when their relationship is full of love.  That is God’s intent for family.  God’s intent for each of us is always to enjoy the peace, love, contentedness, hope and joy which comes from a close relationship with Him.  The obvious truth: enjoy a close relationship with Him and the other relationships will follow.

Wealth or heart

Proverbs 17:3 “The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart.” Our lives on this earth are viewed by many as being successful based on our assets.  Big house, nice maybe even exotic cars, large 401k account, a college degree and beyond, nice clothes and the list goes on and on.  These are all blessings but not the core value of any of us.  Where does God say our value lies?  Answer: in our heart–our relationship with Him is astronomically more valuable than any possession anyone can own.  Do you or I own the most valuable treasure?

Two key words

Proverbs 16:32 “Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.” For a conqueror to dominate an entire population one would think—that is impressive and the conqueror must be an impressive celebrity.  God, however, wants us to learn that patience and self-control are more admirable qualities.  Celebrity status can easily result in a loss of humility and be therefore detrimental to a person’s life.

Another golden nugget

Proverbs 16:23 “The hearts of the wise make their mouths prudent, and their lips promote instruction.” When you or I find a wise person who has a tight relationship with the True God–listen and learn.  Your and my duty in life is to become wise, serve our God, serve our fellow man and live a life of kindness and purpose.  All else are gifts from a very loving Savior.

Listen and trust

Proverbs 16:20 “Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers, and blessed is one who trusts in the Lord.” This verse is a short, simple, gold, phenomenal nugget of truth right in the middle of the Bible.  Who on earth does not want to prosper?  Who on earth does not want to be blessed?  The key to unlock this treasure of truth promised by God: listen to His wisdom and trust in His promises.  Read the verse again and apply its truth to your life and enjoy God’s promise.  Have a great weekend.
