Jesus’ words

John 17:3 “Now this is eternal life; that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” This passage is a part of Jesus’ prayer to His Father.  These words are absolute truth.  You and I ask ourselves:  Do you and I know our Heavenly Father?  Do you and I know our Savior, Jesus?  Then—-eternal life for you and me is with our God in Heaven—-that is the best news you will hear today or any day!!

Warped thinking

John 16:2b “…in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God.” The faithless thinking of man cannot possibly be logical, God-fearing or wise.  Without faith man cannot possibly live a moral life because without faith there are civil laws which become as shifting as the wind with no absolutes.  One has to only look at our society where gay rights, abortion and chaotic thinking dominate.  When God’s truths dominate as the absolute wise thinking, all turmoil is eliminated.  Unfortunately, that thinking will only happen in Heaven.

You will have trouble

John 16:33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world.” If you are breathing you will not have a life without trouble.  You know that and Jesus knew and knows that.  BUT, Jesus also is positive you and I need a source of comfort and peace and He wants to assure us that He is that Source!  Troubles will never disappear on this earth, but the wonderful news is: neither will He!

Your responsibility

John 15:27 “And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.” Our God given responsibility and privilege is to tell others about their Savior.  Since the Holy Spirit lives within you, you are never alone in this conversation.  Since our Savior walks by your side you are never alone in this conversation and since our Heavenly Father loves you dearly and has adopted you as His child you are never alone in this conversation.  You and I should never fear mere mortals.

The Father’s love

John 16:27 “No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.” We all want to love and to be loved.  Depression is the result of not feeling loved and many people suffer from the insecurity felt when love appears nonexistent.  No Christian should allow him/her self to be in the desperate mental state of feeling unloved.  Whenever that feeling arises and we see it in a person, we are obligated to help that person realize the wonderful truths of this passage.

Being hated is good?

John 15:18 “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.” Of all the people in the world in all of history who would be loved, it would be the definition of love–Jesus.  Yet, Jesus is hated because He tells the truth—you can’t come to the Father except through me and you cannot enter eternity with me and my Father without me.  Is Jesus the most egocentric person to ever exist or is He simply stating truth?  Jesus simply states truth and people hate Him for it.  So, when you tell the truth—at times—expect the results of this passage.
