Many or one

Proverbs 18:24 “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Often popularity is envied.  Or is having a good close friend that can be trusted, is loyal and can be confided in of more value than many admirers?  Solomon is suggesting that one can be a much greater number than many and one can have much more depth than a shallow crowd.
