Ecclesiastes 2:11 “Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.” All that Solomon exposes is self-centered. His purpose of living was to gain as much as possible — all to please himself. And he accomplished the ultimate. Pleasures, wealth, success—-all was his—yet he says his life was like chasing the uncatchable wind. His purpose is to totally expose, by the time we conclude this book , what truly is important while also exposing what the world craves. Have a great weekend.

Ecclesiastes 1:18 “For with much wisdom comes much sorrow; the more knowledge, the more grief.” If you have a real desire to ruin your day, watch CNN or FOX news or MSNBC or any other news station. They all supply their version of prejudice, knowledge and theoretic wisdom. Then let’s not watch any tv but rather read various newspapers or magazines. The results are identical. Now, let’s read our Bibles and have conversation (prayer} with our God. Totally different experience. The world’s multitude of supposed truth, knowledge and wisdom leads to chaos and discontent. God’s Truth leads to peace and contentedness. You and I have a choice to make.

Proverbs 1:14 “I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.” Have you, even in your imagination, managed to catch the wind? Solomon wants us to realize that such activity is beyond a waste of time and effort. That is also true of much of life. Meaningless efforts are expended while accomplishing nothing. A drum roll is happening as we are led to finally see what is actually happening as we continue to read and finally come to chapter 12. Solomon’s point—don’t lead a meaningless life!

Ecclesiastes 1:3 “What do people gain from all their labors at which they toil under the sun?” You and I worry. You and I achieve. You and I accumulate assets. You and I live and you and I will die. Solomon suggests we ask ourselves–we have to seriously ask {the question will be answered} why–what is the purpose? Do we live aimlessly or do we live with a constantly defined purpose? The answer is coming.

Ecclesiastes 1:2 ” Meaningless! Meaningless! says the Teacher. Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” Ecclesiastes is one of the most interesting books of the Bible. Solomon puts life and assets into a perspective which defines the value of living life “to the fullest” and expecting the more the happier. Solomon’s wisdom emphasizes what brings joy and contentedness. We have to read and wait in anticipation expressed in the very last verses. Accumulating purposeless assets is meaningless!

Proverbs 31:28 “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also and he praises her:” An entire chapter in God’s Book of Wisdom is devoted to the huge gold mine in finding a valuable wife/mother. The value in this chapter for the ingredients of a successful family is beyond measure. Parents/Grandparents or anyone responsible for training/instructing in preparation for marriage should never ignore Proverbs 31. Have a great weekend. Pray for comfort for those families involved in the terrible plane/helicopter crash over the Potomac.

Proverbs 31:27 “She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” It is very admirable when a mother/wife is both ambitious and responsible. A spouse is benefited and children are being taught the same. Teaching happens with no words being expressed–that is the truth throughout life. The best education is often taught without books or words but rather with intentional actions. Every wife/mother should study the contents of Proverbs 31.

Proverbs 31:26 “She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.” A life recognizing the importance of telling others truth and sound instruction makes for a wife and mother of noble character and a prize for her husband and children. What % of women on this earth who qualify for making an outstanding wife and mother? We will never know. Who you are and who you choose will show your wisdom at that time in your life. Premarriage classes should certainly include Proverbs 31.

Proverbs 31:21 “When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet.” An outstanding wife and mother is concerned her family is raised in a fine quality environment. Mediocrity is out of the question, while excellence thrives. It is amazing how God has planned for a family to thrive with each member participating and interacting for the healthy welfare of each other. A healthy family is a significant blessing much more valuable than silver or gold.

Proverbs 31:20 “She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.” A person can’t treat one group of people with compassion while treating another group of people with a superior attitude. A good wife will be consistent and honorable in all that she does in life. This humble consistency will be recognized and enjoyed by all. Another great characteristic of a faithful, kind and humble wife.

Proverbs 31:12 “She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. God continues with outstanding qualities of a cherished wife. Obviously within this passage is a quality of caring. Caring for a husband 100% of the time. This caring mentality would naturally carry over to their children which would make for a united and loving family. How long would this mentality last? Answer: An entire lifetime! Another beneficiary—not only the husband and children, but the grand and great grandchildren. Families would not be broken but would thrive. All this because of the choice of a great wife. Have a great weekend.

Proverbs 31:10 “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.” What does a young man or a young woman or at whatever age look for in a spouse? God answers the question–not as “lookers” answer– but as wise persons looking to find a partner for life who will heap “gold” onto a family. Not everyone qualifies for everyone. Define “noble” and you have found your precious jewel. Thank God when you find that “noble jewel”. And, you and I should be that “noble jewel”.
