Thanksgiving for Light

John 3:19 “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.” Thanksgiving can be a wonderful celebration or Thanksgiving can be a time of eating with no appreciation of where all our blessings come from.  For every Christian, Thanksgiving is another day of celebration for the earthly and spiritual blessings which you and I enjoy only because of the boundless generosity and love coming from our Almighty Heavenly Father.  Happy Thanksgiving to all.  We praise God for Light!

Consequences

John 3:18 “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”  God does not allow man to determine truth in regard to salvation and His Son.  His truth is quite simple—believe in Jesus and be saved–do not believe in Jesus and do not be saved.  Our world makes up the truth–good guys are saved because God is a good guy.  Nothing could be further from the truth.

Why did He do that?

John 3:17 “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.” Our Heavenly demands perfection.  As soon as sin entered the world man was incapable of having a relationship with his Heavenly Father by his sinful self.  God loved man and wanted a close relationship with man.  Man needed an advocate–a perfect Advocate.  Therefore, Jesus came.  Only through our Savior are you and I capable of standing before God.  Jesus has made each of perfect.  Isn’t that a wonderful and comprehendible truth?  That truth is what makes Christmas such a glorious celebration.

Most well known passage

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” God’s love for each of us is beyond measure.  For our Almighty God to send His Son God to become human, live, suffer, die and rise from a tomb is all beyond our comprehension.  Knowing Jesus, having a close relationship with Him and believing in Him as our Savior guarantees an eternity of treasure.  Who of us doesn’t want a guaranteed, never-ending treasure?

Prove it

John 2:18 “Then the Jews demanded of him, ‘What miraculous sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”‘ Are you kidding me?  Human beings demanding God comply!  What could they possibly be thinking?  Humility and faith were totally absent.  Is much of the world functioning the same today?  What does God say in regard to many topics is an ignored thought, so man can come to his own conclusions and these conclusions have the same authority as what God has to say.  You and I should always base our conclusions on what God says—-never on man’s self-proclaimed, ever changing, self-righteous and totally destructive mentality.  We base our thoughts on God’s thoughts and conclusions. Have a great weekend.

Are you a disciple?

John 2:33 “This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana, in Galilee.  He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.” I want to tell you what happened: I put water into a glass this morning.  I then said to the water–become wine.  Nothing happened.  Thinking maybe I had the wrong type of glass I chose another bigger glass, much fancier and filled it with cold water with ice.  I then said—become wine.  Still nothing.  Can anyone explain Why?  It worked for Jesus–why not me?

A testimony

John 1:34 “‘I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God.”‘ John the Baptist is a very reliable witness.  His testimony is therefore factual and accurate.  He recognized Jesus, knew who He was, couldn’t do anything but tell others about Him.  He knew what his purpose in life was.  God created John for this purpose.  The same is true for each of us—you and me.  Each of us, no matter our age has a purpose.  Important question:  For what purpose has God created you?

An amazing statement

John 1:29 “The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!'” How could John say these words without Jesus being God?  He knew the innocent man standing before him had the power to carry the weight of the world’s sins.  No mere human could do what our Savior did and John knew that truth.  The supreme love our Godhas for each of is comprehendible.  Innocence, to live and die and rise for you and me—there is no greater love.

The One and Only

John 1:14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.  We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Jesus, the Word, our Savior, the Creator, the One and Only, the reason for Christmas, the One who is our Advocate, the One who is Love and gives us assurance and confidence–therefore, our Hope, the One who bought us with His blood—He is the One we honor for He has made each of us His child.  Yes, each of us both humbly and proudly believe—I am a child of God.

U R a Child of God

John 1:12 “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God–” I am…………..-you can state your occupation, your net worth, your skin color, your education or you can state the greatest honor given—–that being:  I am a child of God.  That honor is the most valuable title or description of yourself anyone could give you.  Those 6 words carry you through this life and will carry you into your real home in Heaven.  If anyone ever asks you—who are you?  Your immediate response—-I am a child of God.  What an honor!   Have a great weekend.

Promised Light came

John 1:9 “The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.” On the first day of Creation God created light. What that light was is an interesting yet nonconclusive study.  The important fact is: the first thing God created was light.  The rest of Creation came after this first and critical need.  Your and my most critical need is light–or should the word be spelled Light.  Without our Light survival is impossible.  John, our author, continually emphasizes Jesus as our Light.  He is the One we cannot survive without.  Why would we want to walk in darkness when we can enjoy the Light of life?

John, amazing!

John 1:6-7 “There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John.  He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe.” John was born to testify as a witness to Light.  John knew he had the distinct privilege of introducing Jesus, our beloved Savior, the Light, to the world.  Wouldn’t you think John would have enjoyed an elegant life, the most comfortable chariot in his day, food including every delicacy, and honor befitting the one who was introducing Light?  Whenever you think of God’s purpose for your life don’t expect a bed of roses.  When you represent your Savior do so realizing this earthly life is loaded with thorns–Heaven is our Home.
