Proverbs 13:3 “He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin.” According to Google, the average man speaks 2-3,000 words per day and the average woman speaks 10-20,000 words per day. The average person hears 20-30,000 words per day. Of all those words seemingly about 500 for both man and woman have value. Of all these words, how many give glory to God? I also Googled this question and there is no answer. It would be good for each of us to ask ourselves of ourselves that same question. Probably each of us would admit–not enough.

Proverbs 13:1 “A wise son heeds his father’s instruction, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke.” The greatest example of a son listening to a father is Jesus listening intently to His Father in the Garden of Gethsemane. He asked His Father a question, His Father answered, and He obeyed. Because of that obedience you and I have a reward beyond measure. That is the best example of a son obediently listening to a father. Are you such a son? Are you such a father?

Proverbs 12:25 “An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up.” Anxiety is a serious emotional condition. Anxiety and depression are the most common mental disorders in the United States with 1 out of 4 over the age of 18 suffering. This means you definitely will communicate with more than one person today who suffers from this mental illness. What does this mean to you? Represent your Savior and show kindness and care to everyone you meet–smile as walk, talk and work.

Proverbs 12:23 “A prudent man keeps his knowledge to himself, but the heart of fools blurts out folly.” It is very common for a person who wants to appear knowledgeable expose his ignorance by instructing a person who is accomplished while the accomplished quietly listens. One would think the opposite to be true, but as Solomon explains, it is not. Always learn from the knowledgeable, hopefully wise person, whether that person be male or female.

Proverbs 12:23 “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.” One cannot help but think reading this passage—what is truth? We listen to our God’s words and apply the simple truth–do not lie. In America we live in a land of freedom and opportunity. There are many contradictory thoughts of truth. Religions profess truth yet are very different in their truths. God, our Magnificent God, inspired Solomon to write this passage just like He inspired others to write and the result is His Bible. That is the source of truth. Always refer to God’s Truth and your foundation is solid truth and you will never be fooled.

Proverbs 12:18 “Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” Words are tools. Tools have an intended purpose. However, the tool chest of words can encourage, devastate, heal or damage depending on how they are either spoken or received. When our Savior said—It is finished—the entire world listened and those 3 words affect all of us even today. Those 3 amazing words seal our salvation. Jesus chose those words carefully and purposefully. Can you and I learn from our Teacher the mighty power of words? Definitely! Choose and use your words carefully and with purpose. Have a blessed Good Friday-Easter weekend.

Proverbs 12:16 “A fool shows annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult.” Regret can be guaranteed when anger becomes the ruler. Calmness will always generate a solution when wisdom is applied. We all have a choice in all circumstances–will anger or will calm dominate. The outcome will be determined by our decision. Which would you rather work with—an angry impetuous mentality or a wise calm mentality.

Proverbs 12:8 “A man is praised according to his wisdom, but men with warped minds are despised.” Whenever the word —but — is used in a sentence or in conversation you know what follows is very likely to be not good. Solomon writes—possessing wisdom is a great blessing—BUT—just the opposite is terrible. Isn’t praying for wisdom to be a daily part of our prayer life? BUT—-do we all pray that prayer?

Proverbs 12:5 “The plans of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.” We all from time to time look for advice. We might go to professionally educated and trained if the situation demands that type of advice. We might go to friends or acquaintances if the situation requires that type of advice. You make a decision on the value of the advice based on the value of the wisdom of the person you are asking. Be a person who people come to for advice because of the value of your character and wisdom.

Proverbs 12:3 “A man cannot be established through wickedness, but the righteous cannot be uprooted.” The best and most secure way to live is to have a solid faith, a firm conviction and a faithful, secure relationship with your God. With those 3 personal traits one’s life will be rooted in strength and success. Study your Bible and be blessed. Grow in the wonderful relationship your Savior lived, died and rose for.

Proverbs 12:1 “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.” Think of this: anyone who hates correction loves being wrong—and loving being wrong because you do not want to be corrected is as stupid as stupid gets. Isn’t it wise to listen, learn and apply wise thinking to one’s life? Solomon’s inspired wisdom is useful, practical and applicable. Have a great weekend.

Proverbs 11:28 “Whoever trusts in his riches will fail, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.” Faith in our Redeemer Savior fills you with a wealth that is beyond measure. Earthly comforts are certainly welcome but Solomon, the wealthiest man in the world in his time and possibly even now, knew the meager value of stuff. You and I thrive only through the love of our Heavenly Father. Treasure that beyond valuable treasure chest.
