National righteousness

Proverbs 14:34 “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people.” The introductory ceremony of the Olympics could not have been more depraved.  God was mocked.  Why would anyone intentionally make such an introduction while the outstanding athletes are about to compete after much long hard work?  At times man is as deprived as deprived gets.  Fortunately, there was also a large group who sang and gave glory to our Creator.  So, as usual mankind produced a faithful honor to God by some and a dishonor by others.  The question is: where do you and I stand?

In death comes life

Proverbs 14:32 “When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in death the righteous seek refuge in God.” Because of sin life on earth is a struggle.  There are only two ways to handle the struggles: Become depressed, anxious, run and suffer deeper consequences living with regrets or realize life on earth is full of struggles but God is by our side either holding our hand or carrying each of us.  One relies on our selves, the other relies on our Savior.  The wiser is without question relying on our Savior.

Help the needy

Proverbs 14:31 “Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” Honoring God–what a privilege!  Helping the needy is not an obligation—it is a privilege.  How can we deny those who honestly ask for our help?  In turn, those who are needy have a responsibility to be appreciative.  We all should serve our Maker however we are able.  The reward?  The privilege of honoring God.  Blessings always follow.

Contentedness

Proverbs 14:30 “A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.” Jealousy will always produce an unending desire for more.  A lack of satisfaction never allows peace in a person’s life.  We, as faithful Christians, have to live life always making our top priority in serving our Heavenly Father and blessings follow.  In trying to always attain more there is never a contentedness.

Patience

Proverbs 14:29 “Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick tempered displays folly.” Our greatest Teacher could easily rid the world of those who deny Him, question Him, place others above Him, or ignore Him.  Yet, He teaches you and me patience by allowing time for all to come to know Him.  If God practices patience, wisdom certainly dictates we follow His example.

The one thing of importance

Proverbs 14:27 “The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death.” Our lives are full of activities.  Our schedules are bursting.  Our weekdays, our evenings, our weekends, rarely allow time for the one activity we all need.  How much of our lives do we concentrate on the one activity which is the most important time of our lives?  How much time do we devote to our Savior?  If we truly believe our God is our everything, our life, certainly we should devote time to Him.
