II Thessalonians 3:10 “For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: ‘The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.'” In this verse God is not talking about those who have a physical, mental or debilitating disability. God is talking about a person who is fully capable of working and is simply lazy. The rule is quite simple–work and eat–don’t work, don’t eat. It’s hard to get simpler than that!

II Thessalonians 2:15 “So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or letter.” The Bible is not simply a book one goes to the library to get to read for pleasure because it might have some good ideas. You don’t go to Amazon and order it used to get a deal and maybe read it, maybe not. The Bible contains such valuable wisdom that your and my eternity is held within its grasp. Our Almighty God had His words written solely for our benefit. How foolish it is to ignore the life saving truths our God explains. Read, apply and enjoy His truths.

II Thessalonians 2:12 “and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.” Many people in the world live for self-pleasure. Isn’t that what a happy life is all about? Why would anyone prioritize serving God and telling others of His grace while ignoring self-indulgence? Why? Because self-pleasure, self-indulgence or simply living life to please oneself is as temporary as temporary gets. Serving God is as long term as long term gets. Security and peace can be life long—even eternal. It is a simple matter of choosing wisdom over being foolish. Each of us makes a choice.

II Thessalonians 1:12 “We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” You and I live glorifying/serving our God. He couldn’t do more for each of us than He has done. Our appreciation should be as evident as the sky is above the earth=nothing can be more obvious. Do others see that quality in us? We pray others do. Have a great weekend.

II Thessalonians 1:8 “He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.” Many times one hears a person is in Heaven who did not follow Jesus and who lived a life other than the one way to gain eternal life with our Lord Jesus. Man does not determine where eternal life will be spent–God does. This passage is one of many where the thought of having a faith in Jesus is beyond critical for eternal life in Heaven. Salvation is dependent on knowing the Gospel message of our Lord and Savior. Your and my responsibility is to share that truth.

I Thessalonians 5:15-18 “Rejoice always, pray continually. give thanks in all circumstances: for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Since the moment we came to faith–always–continually–in all circumstances–became our life. Rejoicing, praying and thanksgiving became your and my life. God didn’t write–in good times–He wrote–at all times. Is that difficult as we live life? Absolutely! When He explains as we live with Him in Heaven, we will understand. For now we believe and live with trust, hope and praise. We celebrate with thanksgiving every moment of every day.

I Thessalonians 4:7-8 “For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.” You and I cannot have two masters. Either we are our own master or God is our Master. One is seconds long in satisfaction while the other is secure and brings peace for a lifetime into eternity. We need our Savior’s help to be constantly aware of the short pleasure of earthly satisfaction. We fail is we let our human nature rule our lives. We thank God for living inside each of us and directing every step we take–both physically and mentally.

I Thessalonians 4:1 “As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living.” WWJD was a popular bracelet a few years ago. It was an excellent constant reminder for especially teenagers to ask themselves the same question as this passage suggests. What would Jesus do? —-There couldn’t be a more appropriate question for each of us to ask ourselves every second of every day. As His children we enjoy following His instruction. I Thessalonians 2:13 “And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God…” There is a huge difference between what you are reading right now and what you read a few seconds ago, the verse above. The first are the absolute words of truth while the second is human interpretation or understanding. The second is hopefully correct while the first is absolutely correct. When God speaks we listen very carefully and then apply His truth. What an extreme blessing it is to study Scripture–God’s Word.

I Thessalonians 2:12 “For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.” What an honor it is to be a mother or father. What a responsibility it is to be a mother or father. To encourage, comfort and teach our children about our Savior-there is no higher calling. God’s perfect plan for family certainly shows His great love for His children, while it also shows the great love we should have for one another.

I Thessalonians 2:4 “…we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts.” Your and my priority should always be to serve God and listen to His absolute truth. What does God say about divorce, abortion, greed, alternate life styles, forgiveness, eternal life or any other issue. Man’s opinion is totally meaningless when God presents His truth. What kind of car to drive is not determined by God, but managing finances is. What day of the week and what time to worship is not dictated by God, but worship and studying His Word certainly is. If God speaks, we listen. Amen

I Thessalonians 1:6 ” You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.” A Christian’s life is both peaceful and is just the opposite. Perfect peace is a promise from our God for our soul while terrible turmoil is promised in life for our body. Ever since the fall in the Garden of Eden this dichotomy became real. Not because of God for He is love and is perfect, but rather, because of our own sinful nature. This two fold life makes for a long discussion, but for here: expect both peace and expect turmoil. Develop a strong and steadfast relationship with your Savior. Study Scripture.
