A relationship ensuring success

Acts 7: 9b-10a “…God was with him and rescued him from all his troubles.  He gave Joseph wisdom and enabled him…” God never changes.  Joseph, like all the other Old and New Testament adopted and loved children of His, was protected and enabled to live under the blessing and protection of the Almighty God.  Every Christian has the same guaranteed benefits.  You and I are wonderfully enabled to live under His protection.  There is nothing more comforting and enjoyable.  How blessed we are.

Each given responsibility

Acts 6:3-4 “Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom.  We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” A beautiful tree has many branches with beautiful leaves and one substantial trunk with a root system which nourishes this beautiful creation.  Any successful organization has an identical structure.  The early Christian church applied this thinking as should you and I.  To have beauty and health there must be a solid main structure, a root system nourishing the entire group of individuals who have purpose and are filled with that nourishment of purpose.  One branch with one leaf and a skinny trunk and a single root will soon collapse at best.  Praise God for being the trunk and root system and filling you and me with the Holy Spirit to accomplish His beautiful purpose. Have a great weekend.

Faithfulness

Acts 5:42 “Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.” What is it that you and I can learn from the thoughts, words and actions of the apostles?  Can it possibly be: we follow their example of never stopping telling others of the Messiah?  Isn’t that the duty of everyone who calls themselves Christian?  The answer is the same for these questions—Yes, that is our duty.

Either Or

Acts 4:33a “With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus…” The apostles were eye witnesses to Jesus’ resurrection.  Either the apostles were lying or they were telling the truth.  They had zero incentive to lie.  The truth of Jesus’ resurrection filled their hearts and they had to expose that truth to all who were willing to listen.  The same is true throughout history since Jesus rose.  Only God could rise from the dead.  Therefore, Jesus is God.  What He says is absolute truth.  You and I receive the comfort and peace that truth establishes.  Enjoy the truth of the resurrection.

Expression of truth

Acts 4:24b “…’Sovereign Lord’, they replied, ‘you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them’.” Do you believe the Bible is absolute truth and the Word of God?  Christians would answer-yes-to that question.  It simply follows then that Christians would credit God with being the Creator of all of creation.  This verse is a true confession of the magnificent power of God, our Creator.  To believe in evolution is impossible.  You and I rejoice in the incomprehensible power of God.  What does that further mean?  He is preparing a mansion for you and me in Heaven.  Never be afraid of dying because phenomenal living is coming.   Chuck, a member of our leadership team at The Lighthouse, is with his brother-in-law, along with his wife and other members of his family.  His brother-in-law, also Chuck, just learned he has only days to live.  Pray God’s comfort is with Chuck’s entire family and the truth of today’s verse lives with them.  Thank you.

The only option

Acts 4:20 “As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Peter and John were told to stop telling people about Jesus.  They then said this simple statement.  They could do nothing other than tell the truth.  Aren’t you and I in the same position?  You and I are obligated to speak the truth about all that our God has to say.  We can’t do anything else!  We cannot lie nor can we keep the truth to ourselves.  How could we do anything else as His forgiven, loved, adopted children?

Only 1–not 2 or 3 or whatever

Acts 4:12 “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.” A modern cultural thought is–everyone, with very few exceptions, is going to heaven.  That thought could not be further from the truth.  Faith in Jesus as our perfect Advocate, is not only a hope for everyone who gains eternal life, it is the ONLY way to gain eternal life no matter what our weak desires might be.  Salvation, which is desired by all, can only come to those who have a faith filled relationship with our loving Advocate Savior Jesus.  There is only ONE way to be saved.  This verse is extremely essential for truth to prevail. Have a great weekend.

4 necessaries

Acts 2:42 “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Four example traits of the early Christian church members are the same you and I would do well in practicing today.  The 2000 year spread doesn’t affect the value of these 4 activities.  One: learning, understanding, studying God’s Word; Two; hanging out with fellow believers.  In other words–having a Christian support and fellowship, conversation group;  Three: celebrating communion and having get togethers (meals-parties) with fellow believers;  Four: praying, talking with God- which is a natural as He is the One who loves you far beyond our understanding.  Enjoy your Christian life!

Repent, be baptized, a promise

Acts 4:38-39a “Peter replied, ‘Repent, and be baptized, every one of you.  In the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.  And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.  The promise is for you and your children…” God’s demands, His promises and His love never change.  That statement is difficult for you and me to understand because our lives are constantly experiencing change.  The God  Adam, Abraham, David, Matthew, your Christian grandparents and you and I worship is the same.  His truths never change.  His promises are true and everlasting.  A glorious eternity is waiting.  What a wonderful God we cherish.

Our calling

Acts 2:21 “And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” These words were quoted by a New Testament prophet of an Old Testament prophet.  You and I can quote these same words as the truth remains the same.  There is no other way to spend life eternally in Heaven.  This truth has been since the fall in the Garden of Eden and will never change.  Know this truth.  Believe this truth.  Live this truth.  Tell others this truth.

Can’t fool God

Acts 1:26a “Then they prayed, ‘Lord, you know everyone’s heart…” You don’t know my heart and I don’t know your heart.  Words and actions can be very deceiving.  BUT with God nothing is hidden.  He knows your heart felt motives.  Your and my heart felt motives are what He sees and what only He can and does judge us by.  If anything you or I do is for show, it is detrimental to a healthy heart.  You and I have to ask the question—how is my heart?  The answer is of ultra importance.

Truth is fulfilled

Acts 1:15a “In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about one hundred and twenty) and said, ‘Brothers and sisters, the Scripture had to be fulfilled…” Jesus, our Advocate, was promised and that promise happened.  Judas, as Jesus’ betrayer, was foretold by David and that promise was fulfilled.  Jesus rising from the dead was promised and again, that promise was fulfilled.  Our God will again come to earth and bring all believers to Himself in Heaven.  God’s promises are always fulfilled.  Believe and spread the Word–that is the duty of man/woman.  Have a great weekend.
