God’s amazing love

I Thessalonians 1:4 “For you know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction….” You and I are incapable of truly realizing the benefits of the Almighty God loving us.  Given all of our disobedience, it is amazing that God even desires to have anything to do with us.  For you and me to daily be blessed because of His love is something which motivates each of us to act as most appreciative adopted children of His.  Doing good works is the least we should do as our Thank You to our Savior.

work-faith; labor-love; endurance-hope

I Thessalonians 1:3 “We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” Three qualities of every conscientious Christian are faith, love and hope.   These qualities are evident in a Christian’s life by his/her actions (works), efforts to help others (labor) and a never give up (endurance) mentality and effort.  Would those who know you say you possess the above and could state why you possess this lifestyle?  Is faith, love and hope what is evident as your/my motivation?

Valuable friends

Ephesians 1:2 “We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers.” One of the most dangerous activities a person prone to any addiction is to isolate.  To lack the companionship of others causes anyone to dwell on all the negatives life offers.  If one wants to do well there must be a relationship with others who desire to serve their Heavenly Father and help others to enjoy the success our God blesses us with.  If we do find ourselves alone at times, the MOST valuable activity any of can do is talk with our Savior.

Be wise

Colossians 4:5 “Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.” Never stop praying for wisdom.  Never act any other way than exposing the truths of grace.  Never be anything other than humble.  Always know you represent your Savior.  Always be thankful for the blessings you enjoy daily.  Always read, study and apply the absolute truths of the Bible for therein we all find both temporal and eternal life.

Short yet very important

Colossians 4:2 “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” There is no greater love than the love God has for each of us.  We all cherish His concern for each of us.  You and I never want to feel we are not loved by others, but above all we never want to feel we are not loved by our Almighty God.  Wouldn’t that love then create a natural desire to communicate (pray) with our God.  Besides telling others about Him, there is nothing more valuable we can do than converse with Him all day, every day.  Enjoy that privilege. (My computer was in for repair last week-that’s why no devotions)

Your boss identified

Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Have you ever been asked–who do you work for?  And was your answer–a certain school district or a large manufacturing company, or an insurance company or maybe you said–myself, as I’m self-employed.  You and I as Christians should reply–just as this passage says—you and I work for the Lord and we will therefore always do our absolute best.  So, now, who do you work for?

100% of life

Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Whatever is a very inclusive word.  There are no exceptions.  A Christian therefore includes God in 100% of words and actions-all day long.  That activity certainly requires our Savior at our side.  All of us pray for that life and for His company as a constant.

Privileged living

Colossians 3:16 “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” It is impossible for a Christian to live and not show gratitude to God for the blessings He has given each of us.  As we live, as we talk to one another, as we go to sleep and as we wake up, how can we do anything other than be appreciative for all we are blessed to enjoy, the greatest of all being His great love for us, His adopted children.

Let peace rule

Colossians 3:15 “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.  And be thankful.” Every Christian desires a mind devoted to honoring their Savior.  That honor demands and experiences a peace which can only come from a close relationship with our Father.  Peace is gained when total trust is the relationship between our God and each of us.  When we give our heart to God we can only then experience the peace which passes all understanding and makes each of us become as relaxed as relaxed gets. Have a great weekend.

Love and Forgiveness

Colossians 3:13 “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone.  Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” This lesson is easy to type and easy to read but very difficult for any of us to follow.  We all like to consider ourselves more righteous than the other guy, but when the truth is spoken, none of us would spend eternity in Heaven except for Jesus as our perfect advocate and making forgiveness happen.  We do well when we follow the example of our Great Teacher as expressed in the second of the two sentences above.

Suggested clothing to be in style

Colossians 3:12 “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved cloth yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Clothes are very important to many fashion minded people and because of that clothing stores abound and designer names carry weight to the fashion minded.  However, who we are is identified by our wardrobe displaying our inner self.  This passage certainly suggests every Christian’s wardrobe.  The difference between our closet wardrobe and our inner self wardrobe is huge.  One displays something purchased while the other displays our heart.  The heart display is far more important than the closet display.  Let’s all wear the clothes of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Very simple, yet very hard

Colossians 3:2 “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” God expects us to enjoy our life on this earth and live a life dedicated to Him as we use our talents serving Him and our fellow man.  But, our minds are always looking forward to a glorious future living with Him in Heaven.  If we live only for earthly pleasure and gain, we will live a very disappointing life.  We will leave this earth saying the well known words—is that all there is?  If we live thanking our God for all our blessings we will leave this earth saying the well known words—praise be to God, Heaven is my home.
