Proverbs 19:17 “He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward him for what he has done.” Helping others is a common trait of every true Christian. A Christian does not live life for his own pleasure, but rather has learned that helping others is not only his responsibility but his joy. And where is this trait seen and taught? Proverbs 18:24 “A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Often popularity is envied. Or is having a good close friend that can be trusted, is loyal and can be confided in of more value than many admirers? Solomon is suggesting that one can be a much greater number than many and one can have much more depth than a shallow crowd.

Proverbs 18:15 “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.” A person who has a desire to gain both knowledge and wisdom will continually have a mindset to gain both. His/her direction will always be focused on an improved and strengthened way of both thinking and living. This will in turn lead to teaching the same quality of life.

Proverbs 18:13 “He who answers before listening—-that is his folly and his shame.” Our wise God knew He could not create man with 2 mouths and 1 ear. If He had, man would talk constantly and listen rarely. He knew that for man to gain and display wisdom, he must listen much more than he talks. This is an important lesson for us to apply.
