Truth is truth

II Corinthians 13:8 “For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth.” Ultimate, absolute truth is what God speaks.  Opinions abound like snowflakes in a winter storm.  When God speaks everyone should listen.  The ultimate audacity is to not listen to our God, not follow His Word and invent some philosophy which ignores His truth.  Study His Word.  Make His instruction be a regular part of your daily life and watch your faith both grow and you become more secure in your true understanding of life.

Everything for strengthening

II Corinthians 12:19b “…and everything we do, dear friends, is for your strengthening.” Do you and I live our lives with the same thought as Paul expresses—our lives, words and actions are always a reflection as a child of our Heavenly Father?  If any one of us answer yes—you have reached a state of perfection!!  That would be wonderful, but none of us has.  This is; however, a thought each of us should keep in mind as representatives of our Savior.

Delight in what?

II Corinthians 12:10 “That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.  For when I am weak, then I am strong.” Paul’s reasoning seems to be in need of major therapy.  Or, if we come to that conclusion, are you and I in need of major therapy?Paul wrote that his strength was in his Savior, not himself.  Paul knew every gift, talent, security and honor he received was only a result of his tight, loving relationship with his Heavenly Father.  Paul’s gift of wisdom is in no need of therapy and if you and I think the same, neither are we.  His strength is a wonderful gift. Have a great weekend.

Know truth

II Corinthians 11:14 “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.” In many people’s minds truth is relative.  One’s opinion is as valuable as the next.  An open mind is what we should have.  There is a higher power and you determine what that power is.  The Devil loves this misguided thinking for it takes from the One and Only True God the truth of absolute truth.  The God of the Universe and His absolute truth have withstood not only the test of time, His truth has withstood all opposition and always will.  Study your Bibles for therein lies your Redeemer, your Father and your Holy Spirit.  Your Heavenly future is absolutely sealed.

Paul’s concern

II Corinthians 11:3 “But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.” The snake knew Eve had a weakness.  All the snake had to do was find it.  You and I are no different.  That is a very bold statement.  In my sober houses (The Lighthouse)  the addictions are obvious–drugs, alcohol, pornography, gambling, anger, etc.Mentors are assigned to help understand and deal with the weaknesses.  What about you and me?  What is my weakness?  What is your weakness?  Don’t let Satan win the battle.  Thankfully, Jesus won the war.  We need His help to also win the battle.

Do not boast

II Corinthians 10:18 “For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.” Being boastful is not a trait of a Christian.  I am great will never be spoken by one who is thankful for the sacrifice of our Savior.  If Jesus, who was and is indeed Great never boasted that thought of Himself, certainly you and I have less boasting rights and should express and inwardly feel and admit in all humility, we are servants and obedient children of our Heavenly Father and if there is ever glory, it is totally glory given to our Heavenly Father.

His indescribable gift

II Corinthians 9:14b-15 “…because of the surpassing grace God has given you.  Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift.” God’s gift of grace is beyond our understanding.  His gift of grace which brings peace, comfort, hope and eternal life with Himself in Heaven and which lasts through eternity is indescribable.  Try and think of God’s second greatest gift to you—your spouse, your child/children, your grandchildren, the beauty of where you live, or?…..  All wonderful gifts, yet nothing compares to His everlasting gift of grace!  There is no greater love.

All blessings

II Corinthians 9:10 “Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.” The source of all your possessions, talents, time and faith is your generous and loving Heavenly Father.  None of us can ever look in the mirror and conclude we are really something.  Never conclude—-wow, look at me–I have accomplished amazing things.  Rather, each of us should look in the mirror and in humility say—wow, look at me—God has accomplished amazing things with me and through me–my stuff, my faith, my family, my all—what a fantastic God.  Thank you my Heavenly Father. Have a great weekend.

Who runs your life?

II Corinthians 9:8 “And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” When you get up in the morning is your thought process–let’s see, this is what I have to do today, or do you begin the day—by the grace of God, with my Savior at my side, this is what God and I will do today!  Which awakening thought will give you a better day?

Giving based on gross or net?

II Corinthians 9:6 “Remember this:  Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.” Is donating time, talent and treasure a sensitive, conscience tingling action?  Should you and I donate 10% based on our net income or gross income?  Another question:  Does God bless you and me based on our width or on our height?  Answer: God blesses us based on His love.  Our giving is the same.  Giving is not a % thing;  giving is based on the heart and love and appreciation.  Don’t you do the same with your own children?  Giving is not a matter of financial calculation of the brain—-Giving is always a matter of 1 organ–the heart.

Why this passage?

II Corinthians 8:22 “In addition, we are sending with them our brother who has often proved to us in many ways that he zealous, and now even more so because of his great confidence in you.” You and I have the ability to encourage or discourage.  Do you have a child, a friend, a spouse, or even a grocery store clerk who is affected by the way you treat them?  Yes, you do.  Everyone you come in contact with is affected by you and by your attitude toward them.  Try today making an effort to honestly encourage everyone you come in contact with and you will find your day will be filled with joy.  Test that truth!

Christian attitude

II Corinthians 8:21 “For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of men.” How can you and I care what God thinks without caring about the concerns of His creations made in His image?  We have bracelets which have the initials WWJD, implying we actively care about the mindset of our Creator, what about the well being of His creation from conception through natural life?  Paul urges us to be consistent–caring about both God and man.
